PASSING OF FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE COLIN POWELL

We are deeply saddened by the death of General Colin L. Powell — the first Black U.S. Secretary of State and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He died this morning at age 84, from complications of COVID-19 amid battling multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer. He was fully vaccinated.

We will remember Gen. Powell as a man of tremendous warmth, intuition, public service, and a strong proponent for the American story! Gen. Powell was a man committed to social justice. He was well aware of the problems in America and the World. He was not afraid to say what he thought was right. He was able to rise above partisan politics.

On the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Gen. Powell said: “He was a great American who became a powerful example to the rest of the world.”

Our hearts will remain heavy in the days ahead with the Passing of Gen. Colin Powell – “a great American who became a powerful example to the rest of the world.” He will be greatly missed.
Let us keep Gen. Powell’s wife, Alma Johnson Powell, and their three children, as well as grandchildren, in our thoughts and prayers during this great loss to the United States and the World!
