A group of dedicated healthcare professionals provided much-needed services to the Benton Harbor community in Michigan on July 22, 2023. Dr. Don J. Tynes and Dr. Janice McLean, alongside volunteers from Highland Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church organized a health expo at the community center in Blossom Acres Housing. They offered various health screenings and education to over 30 families.
The coordinators followed the Gospel Commission’s call to “Go” and held the event at the community center instead of the church. Dr. Tynes invited local health professionals from Benton Harbor and Grand Rapids and ran his Future Doctors Future Leaders program, which aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in healthcare.
Dr. Janice McLean brought services from her own organization Uzima Lifestyle Center and Wildwood Lifestyle Center, along with volunteers from Trinity Temple. The Highland Avenue SDA Church and Pastor Denry White provided essential support for this initiative, handling registration, providing snacks and greeters, and assisting with the event; services provided included blood pressure checks, glucose screening tests, podiatry, BMI screening, health education materials, vegan meal demonstrations, and a prayer booth.
